The History of
JIA Sports Academy
Founded by Eric Anyan – A Dream Rooted in Purpose, Faith, and Passion
The story of JIA Sports Academy is one of vision, compassion, and unwavering belief a journey shaped by the love for football, a deep commitment to humanity, and a divine calling to serve the underprivileged through the beautiful game.
In the year 2013, during a heartfelt visit to my beloved homeland, Ghana, West Africa, the seed for JIA Sports Academy was planted. My name is Eric Anyan, and what I witnessed during that visit changed the course of my life.

I saw pure, raw football talent in every corner, young boys and girls from different religious backgrounds and beliefs, united by their love for the game. On dusty pitches and open fields, I watched them play with passion, laughter, and joy. They supported each other, celebrated brilliance, and gracefully embraced each other’s mistakes. It was football in its purest form — beautiful, unifying, and healing.
But amid this beauty, I also saw a painful reality: many talented young players were denied opportunities simply because of their financial status. Some were sidelined, not because they lacked ability, but because they lacked wealth or influence. I saw coaches accepting bribes from wealthy parents, giving spots to those who could pay instead of those who truly deserved them. It broke my heart and ignited my purpose.
With a vision given by the Almighty God, I founded JIA Sports Academy in 2013 to become a safe haven for those players to give them a platform to shine, regardless of their background. Our mission was simple but powerful: to set the captives free, to level the playing field, and to use football as a vehicle for transformation and hope.
Sadly, in 2018, due to internal corruption and trust issues with individuals I had relied on to run the academy, along with the overwhelming challenge of visa denials for our young talents, I had to pause operations. The system was failing these children, and despite our best efforts, the dream was temporarily put on hold. But when God plants a vision, it never dies.
In 2024, the calling returned — stronger than ever. The dream was reignited, and I knew I could not walk away. Despite the difficulties, the setbacks, and the heartbreak, my faith in God, my love for football, and my belief in humanity compelled me to trust and obey. Inspired by Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”, I chose to rise again.
This time, I was not alone. My greatest support came from my own family, my children, Elijah, Josiah, and Taliyah Anyan, who stepped forward with strength, maturity, and dedication. They urged me to restart the academy and take it further than ever before. With me now working as a FIFA Licensed Agent, they took charge of the academy’s leadership with fresh eyes, unshakable commitment, and a shared heart for justice and impact.
Together, they reached out to their uncle, Mr. Derrick Bonnah, a former professional footballer and a proud graduate of the original JIA Sports Academy. Derrick, a man of humility, compassion, and deep understanding of the struggles young players face, agreed without hesitation. He made the noble decision to retire early from his playing career and dedicate himself fully to building and managing the academy on the ground. His passion and relatability became a pillar of our renewed foundation.
Today, I am proud to say that JIA Sports Academy has not only been revived but has grown stronger, smarter, and more determined than ever. With over 50 dedicated staff and professional coaches, our scouting network is active throughout Ghana, and we are now expanding across Africa, Asia, South America, North America, and beyond.
Our story is no longer just about football; it’s about justice, transformation, and opportunity. We are building a global movement, one that ensures no talented child is left behind, and every gifted player, no matter their financial status, have the chance to dream, believe, and achieve.
From the humble beginnings in Ghana to the global stage, JIA Sports Academy stands today as a symbol of resilience, faith, and the power of a dream given by God. And we’re just getting started.
